Recording of rare birds on Lesvos

Each year many rare birds are seen on Lesvos. As part of the more formal recording of birds on Lesvos set up since 2009, we now have a local records committee – the Lesvos Birds Records Committee. The LBRC are responsible for assessing the records of rarer birds on Lesvos and assist the Hellenic Rarities Committee (HRC) with records of nationally rare species seen on Lesvos.

LBRC was formed at the request of  HRC to encourage birders to submit their bird records, in particular to provide additional details of national Greek rarities, local Lesvos rarities and breeding records of the scarcer breeding species.

The role of the Committee will be –
– to maintain an official list of birds recorded on Lesvos
– to encourage visiting birders to submit bird records, in particular
– to assess records of local Lesvos rarities
– to assist HRC with Greek national rarities seen on Lesvos
– to record  scarce breeding birds on Lesvos
