Western Lesvos – the wild, wild, west

Cover is scare in some areas of the barren west and where it occurs it is a magnet for hungry migrants

A full day searching for migrants and resident specialties in the west. Species we will look for inc. breeding Cinereous Bunting, Isabelline Wheatear, Rock Sparrow, Chukar, Blue Rock-thrush, Rock Nuthatch, Crag Martin; migrant passerines inc. shrikes, warblers, flycatchers, etc.; raptors inc. Long-legged Buzzard, Short-toed Eagle, harriers, Lesser Kestrel and other migrant falcons (inc. Eleonora’s).

This is without doubt the most popular trip I offer. Demand is so great I do three trips out west each week. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Each of the three days can be totally different depending on how I play them depending on weather and migration at the time. For those booking two days out west I’ll try to get to different parts of this large area, but again, this depends on weather and migration at the time – after all, its about find and seeing the birds more than it is seeing the island!

All trips look for Cinereous Bunting.

We visit a number of sites from (but not exclusively restricted to):
Lardia Valley, Ipsilou area, Sigri and Faneromeni area, Pithariou Reservoir, Meladia Valley, Skala Eresou.

A taverna lunch in either Sigri or Skala Eresou.
